Gospel star Anita Afriyie sues MTN

Popular Kumasi-based gospel music star, Anita Afriyie, has sued telecommunication giant MTN over copyright breach of her intellectual property.

A source in the management team (DANKAY Records) of the gospel artiste, explained to MustaphaInusah.Com that MTN has been using the said gospel musician’s music for the past two years for caller-ring tone and on MTN play; without any formal notification, permission or consent from the management team.

The source further stated that many attempts by Anita’s team to reach out to officials at MTN have proved futile – as the latter keeps acting unconcerned about the issue.

Due to MTN’s unconcerned posture, management of the artist (Plaintive), who’s patience run out, had no option but to sue the Yellow branded telecommunication company (Defendants).

DANKAY Records have sued MTN and have also officially served the latter the writ suit number C12/36/16 on 12th February, 2016-- waiting for an appropriate response within eight days.

Slick roads, accident lead to road closures on I-94

An accident and icy roads have created severe back-ups Wednesday morning in the area of Interstate-94, just east of Interstate-75.
The first is an accident on the eastbound side of Interstate-94 just east of Van Dyke Avenue that involves a school bus, a semi truck and an SUV. Drivers are being routed off at the Van Dyke exit.
Michigan State Police tells us the semi driver sustained some minor injuries, but no others have been reported. We're also told the semi truck and the SUV hit each other, causing the SUV to spin out land near the school bus. The school bus and the semi truck did not come into any contact with each other. No children were onboard at the time of the accident.
SkyFOX is over the accident scene and the video shows that other vehicles may have also been involved.
Drivers were also being routed off on the westbound side of I-94 at Mount Elliot for several hours due to ice build-up. That stretch of I-94 was reopened around 8:30 a.m. Gratiot Avenue is also severely congested as many were trying to get around the closure and may be backed up all the way to 8 Mile Road.
Other accidents have also been reported in the metro area. You can get a check of the traffic for your commute with our live traffic map here. Also, tune in to FOX 2 News on the 2s for the latest check of weather and traffic.

Chiefs slam Okyeame Kwame

Hiplife artiste, Okyeame Kwame has disclosed that some chiefs upon hearing the news of his intention to change his name to ‘OK’ called him and asked that he makes no such mistake.
The ‘Small Small’ rapper had hinted he would change his name because the whites are unable to mention the ‘Okyeame’ properly.
According to him, inasmuch as the name ‘Okyeame’ which means linguist, has a positive impact on his personal life and music career, he is baffled with the fact that the whites ‘mess’ the pronunciation up.
“In November, we were running around Africa but wherever we go to they can’t say Okyeame and it breaks my heart. They are able to pronounce ‘Kwame’ but not the first name, ‘Okyeame’. Although I love my roots and I love the name, I do not want the name to be a barrier so maybe I will turn it into initials or take it off and just call myself ‘Kwame’ or keep ‘Rad Doctor’. For now I don’t know the name I’m going to use but we are still thinking about it,” he was quoted to have told Hitz FM.
We wondered if indeed it was in order for him to change his name for such a reason.
Well, speaking on Onua FM’s Total Entertainment on Wednesday, Okyeame Kwame backtracked saying, some chiefs were not enthused.
“I had a lot of calls and messages when the news broke. Some chiefs called me and registered their displeasure. They were like, ‘herh Okyeame Kwame, what are we hearing? You want to change your name? Stop that childish move’,” he told host, Christian Agyei.
The father of two stated that after hearing what the chiefs said, he “would rather go bald” than to change his name.
Okyeame Kwame added that even though he will not be officially known as ‘OK’, the name is part of his brand just like ‘rap doctor’.

My speech wasn't great because I didn’t know I would win – Abraham Attah

Ghanaian movie star, Abraham Attah has explained that he gave a bad speech at the 2016 Independent Spirit Awards because he wasn’t expecting to win the award.
He explained he did not prepare an acceptance speech because he never thought he would be announced winner of the ‘Best Male Lead’ category.
The ‘Beast of No Nation’ star picked up the award at a colourful ceremony held on Saturday night, February 27 at Santa Monica Beach, United States of America.
Attah's acceptance speech has for the past few days generated a lot of controversy with Lexis Bill, host of Drive Time on Joy FM and MzGee, host of the Entertainment News apologising for repeating his ‘Thank you, Thank you’.
Abraham Attah, who played his debut role as Agu, in the movie alongside Idris Elba, reacting to the reports said most people did not know what he went through at the awards.
He explained in a post on Instagram that, “I know that some of the radio presenters in Ghana are saying I gave a bad speech at the independent spirit awards. They don't know what happen to me. I thought was not going to win so I decided not to write any speech down. I was so surprised when she mention my name. I didn't know what to say when I went up there.”

'It is a joke gone wrong', KSM defends radio presenters

Kwaku Sintim-Misa aka KSM has defended radio presenters, Lexis Bill, Jay Foley and MzGee who mocked teen actor, Abraham Attah for his speech delivered at the recently held Independent Spirit Awards when he walked on stage to receive Best actor award.
The veteran comedian in an interview with Christian Agyei Frimpong on Accra-based Onua FM opined that “it was a joke gone wrong”.
To him, he sees nothing wrong with what the three radio presenters said about the actor so he finds it worrying to see Ghanaians toast them on social media.
“Honestly, with what I listened, I don’t think I can base on that to say the radio presenters hate the actor because what I’ve read on social media suggests that they hate the boy.
I think it is a joke gone wrong. Every joke is based on timing. There is noting you can joke about but everything is based on the timing that has made the joke gone wrong. This is the day the young chap has received an extremely important award so this is the time we all rally around him. Even if his oral presentation was wrong somewhere along the line, this is not the time for jokes on it.
All I will say is, it is a joke gone wrong but I won’t term them as haters because the boy’s delivery can go under any joke but the timing is what matters. I can jokingly comment about this some months after and we will all laugh.”
The satirist and show host agreed with movie producer Leila Djansi who has suggested that the ‘Beasts Of No Nation’ actor should be relocated to America because “his career cannot be sustained in Ghana”.

Five killed, 20 injured in Mombasa-Nairobi Highway accident

Five people were killed and 20 injured on Wednesday when a truck crashed into a bus near Salama area along Mombasa-Nairobi Highway.
The truck was overtaking when it hit the Chania bus, St John Ambulance Communications manager Fred Majiwa told the Star on phone.

Majiwa said the bus veered off the road and overturned killing the five in the 1am accident. He said those injured were taken to Sultan Hamud hospital.
More accidents have been recorded since the New Year when the NTSA reported that 32 more people had died , bringing the number since Christmas to 58.

Director general Francis Meja said the higher number of accidents resulted from the rush as school and work resumed.
In the same period in 2015, 48 people died in accidents while 40 suffered serious injuries and 39 minor injuries.

The National Transport and Safety Authority said the number of road crashes had increased by 4.6 per cent in a year. The figure stood at 2,949 on December 21 compared to 2,819 in 2014.

Most accidents resulted from drunk-driving and speeding.
It is estimated that crashes cause a loss of 5.6 per cent of the national GDP. The high population, increase in the number of vehicles and the improved road networks increases the risks.

2016 VGMAs: Shatta Wale and Samini Snub, what about Dawuni?

This particular category looks dry, deserted, witted and calling for some decorations. Apparently, the Grammy nominee, Rocky DAWUNI, didnt make enough impact in his home country.

Reggae/Dancehall Song Of The Year
1. Blakk Rasta – Serwaa Akoto
2. De Voice – It’s So Crazy
3. MzVee – Hold Me Now
4. Stonebwoy – Go Higher
5. AK Songstress – Holiday
6. Jupitar – Fire feat. Sarkodie

Rocky Dawuni, earning a Reggae nod at the Grammys did not match up in his country. Samini, his, protegee, to an extent, was not even nominated.

Dear VGMA Board, could you not consider even a Grammy Nominee at the least? He is bigger than anything yall imagined for Christ sake. At the least his protegee should have had the nod for his work on Breaking News.
